Spotlight and Music
The moon shines above the dry, tainted sky
lighting the familiar narrow road
cramped with rubbish and litter
Glaring eyes in the dark scanned my body
as I strolled my way to that carnal sanctuary
I opened the door to be greeted
by the reek of smoke and beer
Slowly, my eyes began to dilate
only to see creeping warm bodies
“Rodrigo,” that name, made me shiver
but immediately like a machine,
my feet led me to that familiar spotlight
The body swayed in tune
with the neon lights and slithering music
But the soul moaned as my past pulled back
the skin off an old wound
Yells and whistles thrashed the hall
as slowly my clothes were peeled
Beats, drums, lights— and the show ended
The bills handed
A flare of hospital lights awaken my mind
as the room greeted me with silence
Slowly, my eyes constricted to see her tears
She then held my hand while facing our son
covered with white linen
“Robert,” my body crashed like a pile of bricks
Tainting again my dignity failed
to save my son from the lethal leukemia.
